Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / 14.04 LTS / 16.04 LTS / 16.10 : tcpdump vulnerabilities (USN-3205-1)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2017 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2017 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description :

It was discovered that tcpdump incorrectly handled certain packets. A
remote attacker could use this issue to cause tcpdump to crash,
resulting in a denial of service, or possibly execute arbitrary code.

In the default installation, attackers would be isolated by the
tcpdump AppArmor profile.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.

Solution :

Update the affected tcpdump package.
