Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2016 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2016 Tenable Network Security, Inc.
The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.
Lael Cellier discovered that Git incorrectly handled path strings in
crafted Git repositories. A remote attacker could use this issue to
cause a denial of service or possibly execute arbitrary code with the
privileges of the user invoking Git. (CVE-2016-2315, CVE-2016-2324).
Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.
Update the affected git package.
