Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / 14.04 LTS / 15.04 : apport vulnerability (USN-2744-1)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2015-2016 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2015-2016 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description :

Halfdog discovered that Apport incorrectly handled kernel crash dump
files. A local attacker could use this issue to cause a denial of
service, or possibly elevate privileges. The default symlink
protections for affected releases should reduce the vulnerability to a
denial of service.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.

Solution :

Update the affected apport package.
