Firefox ESR < 38.1.1 PDF Reader Arbitrary File Access

medium Nessus Plugin ID 85274

Synopsis

The remote Windows host contains a web browser that is affected by an arbitrary file access vulnerability.

Description

The version of Firefox ESR installed on the remote Windows host is prior to 38.1.1. It is, therefore, affected by a vulnerability in the same origin policy in which an attacker can inject script code into a non-privileged part of browser's built-in PDF reader, resulting in gaining access to sensitive local files.

Solution

Upgrade to Firefox ESR 38.1.1 or later.
