Atlassian JIRA < 5.1.5 SOAP API Arbitrary File Overwrite

high Nessus Plugin ID 85222

Synopsis

The remote web server hosts a web application that is potentially affected by an arbitrary file overwrite vulnerability.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the version of Atlassian JIRA hosted on the remote web server is prior to version 5.1.5. It is, therefore, potentially affected by an arbitrary file overwrite vulnerability in the SOAP API used by JIRA. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit this to overwrite arbitrary files with malicious Java code, which the attacker could then execute on the JIRA server.

Note that Nessus has not tested for this issue but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Upgrade to Atlassian JIRA 5.1.5 or later. Alternatively, refer to the vendor for patch options.
