low Nessus Plugin ID 58906

Synopsis

A telephony application running on the remote host is affected by a denial of service vulnerability.

Description

According to the version in its SIP banner, the version of Asterisk running on the remote host is potentially affected by a vulnerability that could allow a remote attacker to crash the server. This issue could be exploited by sending an UPDATE over a SIP channel after the channel dialog has been destroyed, but before the SIP dialog associated with the call has been destroyed.

Only servers that have 'trustrpid' set to 'True' are affected.

Solution

Upgrade to Asterisk 1.8.11.1 / 10.3.1 / C.3.7.4 or apply the patches listed in the Asterisk advisory. Alternatively, set 'trustrpid' to 'False'.
