Jeff Man Speaking at InfoSec 2014 - Nashville

Register

September 25, 2014
3:25pm

If you’re attending InfoSec 2014 in Nashville, we encourage you to attend “Stay Calm and Embrace PCI,” at 3:25 pm. This session, led by Jeff Man, PCI Evangelist and Product Marketing Manager with Tenable Network Security will explore how PCI compliance COULD equate to security if the standards were actually applied and followed across the enterprise, and not limited to the segmented “cardholder data environment.”

To help you embrace PCI as a security standard, Jeff will share six best practices for implementing PCI DSS into “Business as Usual” processes (as suggested in PCI DSS V3.0) for more effective use of the standard, including:

  • Monitoring of all security controls
  • Ensuring all failures in security controls are detected and there is a response
  • Perform Risk assessment/impact analysis for all proposed changes to the environment
  • Formally review security program after changes to organizational structure
  • Periodic reviews of processes and frequent education/awareness communications to assure that security processes are in-place, understood, and enforced
  • Review technologies regularly to confirm they are still supported by vendor
  • Perform continuous network monitoring to identify all systems/nodes in your network; detect all vulnerabilities, track and monitor all network activity, use collected data to make informed decisions

While the approach outlined in this session cannot eliminate the possibility of a successful attack or breach, it can significantly increase the likelihood of successfully detecting and thwarting more attempted attacks. That said, by attending you will learn how you can monitor the effectiveness of security controls on an ongoing basis, and maintain a PCI DSS compliant environment (or hopefully entire enterprise) in between PCI DSS assessments.
