Juniper Junos IPv6 Packet Handling mbuf Chain Corruption DoS (JSA10699)

high Nessus Plugin ID 86476

Synopsis

The remote device is missing a vendor-supplied security patch.

Description

According to its self-reported version number, the remote Juniper Junos device is affected by a denial of service vulnerability due to a flaw related to the processing of IPv6 packets. An unauthenticated, remote attacker can exploit this, via a specially crafted IPv6 packet, to trigger an 'mbuf' chain corruption, resulting in a kernel panic and a denial of service condition.

Note that this issue only affects devices with IPv6 enabled.

Solution

Apply the relevant Junos software release or workaround referenced in Juniper advisory JSA10699.
