Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / 12.10 / 13.04 / 13.10 : curl vulnerability (USN-2058-1)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2013-2016 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2013-2016 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description :

Marc Deslauriers discovered that libcurl incorrectly verified CN and
SAN name fields when digital signature verification was disabled in
the GnuTLS backend. When libcurl is being used in this uncommon way by
specific applications, an attacker could exploit this to perform a man
in the middle attack to view sensitive information or alter encrypted
communications.

Note that Tenable Network Security has extracted the preceding
description block directly from the Ubuntu security advisory. Tenable
has attempted to automatically clean and format it as much as possible
without introducing additional issues.

Solution :

Update the affected libcurl3-gnutls package.

Risk factor :

Medium / CVSS Base Score : 4.0
(CVSS2#AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:N)
CVSS Temporal Score : 3.5
(CVSS2#E:ND/RL:OF/RC:C)
