Ubuntu 9.10 / 10.04 LTS / 10.10 : gdm vulnerability (USN-1099-1)

Ubuntu Security Notice (C) 2011-2014 Canonical, Inc. / NASL script (C) 2011-2014 Tenable Network Security, Inc.

Synopsis :

The remote Ubuntu host is missing a security-related patch.

Description :

Sebastian Krahmer discovered that GDM (GNOME Display Manager) did not
properly drop privileges when handling the cache directories used to
store users' dmrc and face icon files. This could allow a local
attacker to change the ownership of arbitrary files, thereby gaining
root privileges.

Solution :

Update the affected gdm package.
