Synopsis

The remote Red Hat host is missing one or more security updates for expat.

Description

The remote Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 / 5 host has packages installed that are affected by multiple vulnerabilities as referenced in the RHSA-2009:1625 advisory.

- expat: buffer over-read and crash in big2_toUtf8() on XML with malformed UTF-8 sequences (CVE-2009-3560)

- expat: buffer over-read and crash on XML with malformed UTF-8 sequences (CVE-2009-3720)

Note that Nessus has not tested for these issues but has instead relied only on the application's self-reported version number.

Solution

Update the RHEL expat package based on the guidance in RHSA-2009:1625.
